Pioneer Day Extravaganza

This weekend was Pioneer Day weekend. I have been interning with Provo Parks and Recreation since April as an event planner for Provo city events. We've been planning for the Pioneer Day Extravaganza for a couple of months now, and we finally got to see the fruits of our labors on Saturday. Set-up took 4 hours the Friday before, and on Saturday, we were there for 10 hours in the scorching sun! It was a lot of hard work, but SO worth it!

The band "CROSSROADS" performed for the entire event.
Decorations I made for the Pie Making booth.
Robby got put in jail. He had to complete a word search to get out. Haha!We sawed through a log together! Took way longer than we anticipated though...
Sam (intern) & Whitney (recreation coordinator)
We got our faces painted too.
And we played house in a real teepee.
The mayor and Miss Provo were at our event as judges for the pies.
We sat in handmade willow chairs and rode in a covered wagon.
And Robby bought a frozen banana covered in sprinkles. Can't believe I've never had this before!
The crew that planned and helped out with the event (minus Robby, of course who was a HUGE help). It was a huge success. We planned for 3,000 people and about that many showed up!
Happy Pioneer Day!

(My lesson and our talks on Sunday went well too even though we were up all night preparing. Glad it's over!)

Party at the "Caseys'"!

Last night, instead of going to play volleyball as usual, we decided to have one last dinner party before everyone went on to bigger and better things. Trevor, Sherry, and Tye are leaving this Friday for a new job in San Jose and Rob & Mariah are off to Minnesota for grad school in 2 weeks. So, we were lucky to get everyone together for a super fun evening. The really cool part was that Timbre's house-sitting for her uncle who has a bajillion-bedroom house in Pleasant Grove, so we had our party there!
Here's Robby & Jarom posing for the camera. Don't they look delicous?[Left] Rob & Mariah
[Right] Jarom & Timbre...Tye Nelson being the center of attention.Well, just look at that face!
We had Robby's "jenn otsuji" chicken, kebabs, caesar salad, rice, and honeydew.
The weather was perfect for a BBQ and hanging out on the porch. After dinner, the boys started a fire using their awesome boy scout skills. And of course the party couldn't be complete without some s'mores!Fun times. Check out the size of that JUMBO marshmallow!
Thank you Caseys for always hosting these fun dinners! We're going to miss everyone.

Summer Sundays

He FINALLY let me cut his hair! The last time I cut his hair was before the cruise, so it's been almost 6 weeks. Of course, it was getting a little out of hand. I forgot to take a real before picture. By the time I remembered, I had already buzzed the sides. But you can still see how long it was!Earlier that morning, we went to Tye's (Trevor & Sherry's adorable baby) baby blessing. I'm bummed that I forgot to get a picture of him in his cute baptism outfit! After sacrament meeting, the Nelsons' had a little luncheon at their place. We stayed after everyone else (except for Jarom & Timbre) had left and watched the Women's World Cup game between U.S and Japan. We were all rooting for the U.S. The game was tied 2-2 after extra time, but ultimately the U.S. lost 3-1 in the penalty shoot-out.

After seeing some grills at the park during Lisa's party on Saturday, Robby had the great idea of buying steaks and grilling them for our Sunday dinner. We went at around 7 in the evening and the weather and lighting was perfect. We had steaks for dinner complete with flowers, drinks, and cupcakes. Just for the record, Robby wanted to bring the flowers! Thanks for the delicious and fun dinner! Can we do this everyday? Please???

Feels Good to be Productive!

We did SO much this past Saturday! We've been so busy with work and school that we haven't had a chance to run errands and do fun things in a while. So we overloaded this Saturday. First thing in the morning, we went to little Lisa's 3rd birthday party. She's so grown up now!It was held at Joaquin Park in Provo.
She had some pretty cute party guests!Happy Birthday Lisa! Then, began our series of errands. First, we went to the bank to cash in a few checks. Then, we took both our cars in for a long overdue car wash. They looked brand new after the wash! After that, we made stops at Joanns, Red Mango, Bed Bath & Beyond, Hobby Lobby, Walmart, and Chevron. WHEW! It doesn't end here. We rushed home to put all the groceries in the fridge and finished up wrapping Jason & Rachel's wedding gift before heading to their open house in Springville.

Check out their cute cake that Jason's mom made! And Rachel made these! Here's Robby & Zac and Rachel & I.
Congratulations Jason & Rachel! We left the open house at around 7 so we could make it to Wilson's Diamond before they closed. We were there for at least an hour...and Robby finally found a ring that he loved! He was so excited about it that he even asked if he could wear it as soon as he got it in a couple of weeks. Umm, no. Sorry, hun.

By this point, we were both sooo exhausted. We decided to relax with a redbox. Red Riding Hood was the winner for the night. It was actually a pretty good movie. Robby, the expert clairvoyant of all movies could not for the life of him figure out the ending to this movie. There were just so many little twists and turns. Maybe you should go see it too. Happy Saturday!

Friendly Neighbors

You know how in movies, the newcomers are always welcomed by their neighbors with a basket or plate of cookies and treats?Well, Robby and I were just having a dicussion about how this never really happens in real life...when lo & behold, the neighbors showed up on my doorsteps the next day with these:I've been living in the apartment for 3 months now (and so have they), but I've been so busy that I've never went out of my way to meet them even though their door is only 3 feet away. So, naturally feeling a little bad, I decided to return their plate with a few butterbeer cupcakes that I've been dying to make. The cupcakes turned out delicious, but it was definitely lacking quite a bit in the asthetics department. It's kinda so bad, I don't want to post a picture...but I know Robby's going to tell me "they're not bad!" and make me post a picture.
See? I told you they were ugly. We didn't have the right nozzle for the frosting, so we had to make do with what we had. At least they tasted good. Hopefully the neighbors shared the same opinion...!

P.S. You can find the recipe for the butterbeer cupcakes here.
